Marine batteries refer to secondary batteries used on ships, mainly used for generator set starting, signal lights, emergency lighting, instrument panels, photovoltaic power reserve and other equipment. Different types of applications have different battery requirements. Commonly used marine batteries include the following types:

Lead-acid batteries: the negative electrode is lead, the positive electrode is lead dioxide, and the electrolyte is sulfuric acid. They mainly include starting type, fixed type, traction type, power type and portable type. Most are open or acid-proof batteries, and a small number are colloidal electrolyte batteries. Lead-acid batteries are cheap, suitable for low temperature and high rate discharge, and are widely used. However, due to the low specific energy of lead-acid batteries, the production process is toxic and pollutes the environment, which affects their scope of use.

Cadmium-nickel battery: the negative electrode is cadmium, the positive electrode is nickel oxide, and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide aqueous solution. Common shapes are square, button and cylindrical, with three structures: open, sealed and fully sealed. According to the plate manufacturing method, it is divided into plate box type, sintered type, pressed type and pulp type. Cadmium-nickel batteries have the characteristics of high discharge rate, good low-temperature performance, and long cycle life.

Metal hydride nickel battery: the negative electrode is a hydrogen-absorbing rare earth alloy, the positive electrode is nickel oxide, and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide and lithium hydroxide aqueous solution. It has a capacity 1.5-2 times larger than that of a cadmium nickel battery. It has fast charging and excellent high rate It has excellent discharge performance and low-temperature discharge performance, is cheap and pollution-free, and is called a green environmentally friendly battery.

Iron-nickel battery: the negative electrode is iron powder, the positive electrode is nickel oxide, and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide aqueous solution. It has the characteristics of solid structure, durability, long life, low specific energy, and is mostly used as power source for mine transport vehicles.

Zinc-silver battery: The negative electrode is zinc, the positive electrode is silver oxide, and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide aqueous solution. It has high specific energy and excellent high-rate discharge performance, but the price is high. It is mostly used in military industry and weapon systems.

Zinc-nickel battery: The negative electrode is zinc, the positive electrode is nickel oxide, and the electrolyte is potassium hydroxide aqueous solution. It has high specific energy, low price, but short life. In recent years, the cycle life of zinc-nickel batteries has been greatly improved. With the Improved cycle life will lead to wider applications

Lithium-ion battery: The negative electrode is carbon (graphite), the positive electrode is lithium cobalt oxide, and uses organic electrolyte. It has high voltage, high specific energy, excellent cycle life, safety and pollution-free, and is called a green power source.
